The WEEE man is made from electrical and electronic waste, such as washing machines, TVs, microwaves, vacuum cleaners and mobile phones. He represents the amount of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) the average British person throws away in their lifetime – over 3 tonnes per person.

The WEEE man project’s main objectives are:

• to transform public perception of waste from "out of sight, out of mind" to visible, thought–provoking and behaviour–changing
• to encourage the public, retailers and manufacturers to think carefully about waste reduction
• to raise the profile of the recycling industry
• to educate people on ethical consumer choice and sustainable resource management
• to raise support among designers and manufacturers for environmentally friendly designs

RID UK have supported the WEEE Man project run by RSA and Canon by supplying some of the 3.3 tonnes of household electrical waste used to create the WEEE Man.
